You have a bottle of ketoconazole shampoo sitting in your bathroom, or you are thinking about buying one because your hair is getting thinner. The short answer up front: the active ingredient is proven against dandruff and against the flaking and itching of seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp<\/a>, not against hair loss. Using it for hair loss is off-label, and the data behind that use are thin: the systematic review by Fields et al. (2020, Dermatologic Therapy) found only five human studies worldwide, with 318 participants in total.
